| No. 1 | Too many to remember but these are the three I remember the most. First going back to one of my first ever first team games back in the 80s when Boyo was captain, in the bad old days in the old worcester league, when we got thrashed most weeks.
We were playing Pickwick away and were on the verge of another hiding on about 90-6 chasing 220 plus when I went out to bat with Anthony Monk, Boyo had just departed and passing him on the way out he said, without much hope, to see if we could block out for a draw. We did this for a few overs then Pickwick decided to put the spinners on to buy a wicket. Monk decided to start smashing them in to the car park, I joined in. They started to look a bit worried so brought the seamers back on, but it was too late by then as we both had our eye in, and we went on to win by 3 wickets, Anthony getting 74 and myself 47 no. This spurned us on to win next week as well. I remember two shots I played with a borrowed club bat (an old battered VR 5*) one square cut which went like a bullet to the boundary by the car park, hitting my own car denting the back bumper, and one straight six which cleared the high netting. What made it sweeter was Pickwick were a preety obnoxious lot in those days! . Ray Nash was our keeper in those days, and I nver saw him with a bigger smile on his face. |
| No. 2 | The second has to be smashing 74 against Droitwich in the midweek knockout again when we were massive underdogs. It was early season so we were playing on the wicket closest to the hedge and I remember hitting one six over the high net at square leg. Simon Dunn reckoned it was the biggest six he had seen for a while until Droitwich batted, and one of their batsmen hit Terry Bird just as far about three times in an over. Still we went on to win the game in the last over, with Dennis bowling a good last over when he just a young lad. We went on to have a really good run in the cup, narrowly losing out to a Highway team full of paid players in the quarter finals, when we had to bat second in near darkness. |
| No. 3 | I should say hitting the six off the last ball to win that game against Barnhard Green, but the top moment has to be against Redditch. We were playing a Sunday game when I was captain, back in the late 80s, when Sunday games were taken seriously. It was wet pitch and we bowled Redditch out cheaply in about an hour and a half, and proceeded to knock the runs off easily before tea.
Cant remember who got runs or wickets but I do remember knocking on the Reddith dressing room door and asking the Redditch captain, if he would like a 20 over game, to make the time up. I cannot print what he said in reply. |
